Meditation isn’t what you think!!
Welcome! In every age people have sought to understand themselves, their world, and their universe. They have sought awareness, consciousness, inner knowing, enlightenment and transformation in the search for themselves.
“Know Yourself ” has always been the fundamental teaching of every spiritual tradition. Legend says these words were inscribed over the gateway to the temple of the Oracle at Delphi. Socrates and Plato instructed their disciples thus. Jesus said “The kingdom of Heaven is within you.” The Buddha told people “Within this very body is the entire universe, and its arising and ceasing.”
Meditation is all about raising the spirit and bringing us closer to the God within. Through a meditation practice we come to understand who we are and how to live wisely in this tumultuous world we have been born into.
The purpose of meditation is not to change our nature. But rather, the purpose is simply to observe oneself and to see what is happening within our own minds and our own selves.
Although meditation is simple, it is not always easy. There is no best or right kind of experience in meditation, each time you sit is as unique and different as each day of your life. Be open to whatever experiences come in your meditation. Don’t get fixated on what meditation is supposed to feel like, setting aside judging and labeling your experience. It is important to expect nothing.
Meditation also provides us the skills and resources to cultivate a clear mind, a kind heart and the ability to transform reactivity into discernment and responsiveness, especially during challenging times. As you go though your difficulties, you can learn to bring a quality of loving care to everything you touch.
The spirit you will need to bring to meditation is one of openness, of discovery, of seeing. Learn to plant seeds of goodness and water them everywhere. The blessings will grow for yourself and for all. True freedom is an inward state of being.
Zen Proverb: “The quieter you become the more you can hear”
